Design Challenge

In the Design Challenge, MBDS students work to translate academic research, theoretical foundations, and applied frameworks into actionable insights toward a client-focused problem.

The Design Challenge is a central applied learning experience in the MBDS program. As part of the required Capstone course, students work in teams with Industry Affiliates to address real-world problems through the lens of behavioral science.

Industry partners propose challenges connected to organizational needs, decision-making, behavior change, or human-centered problem solving. Students then apply the theories, methods, and tools they have developed in the classroom to analyze the challenge, generate insights, and develop actionable recommendations.

The Design Challenge allows students to collaborate with peers, receive guidance from faculty and industry partners, and translate behavioral science into practical solutions. For partner organizations, it offers fresh perspectives on meaningful challenges. For students, it provides a structured opportunity to practice applied behavioral science in a professional context.
