College of Liberal and Professional Studies students named 2020 Dean’s Scholars

The College of Liberal and Professional Studies congratulates two of our students who were just announced as 2020 Dean’s Scholars. Nathan Duane Coonts (BA ’20) and Hope Elliott (MSAG ’20) were recognized by Vice Dean Nora Lewis and Dean Steven J. Fluharty of the School of Arts and Sciences for their exceptional academic performance and intellectual promise.

Nathan is a veteran and FourBlock alumnus in the LPS Bachelor of Arts program who is studying political science and history. He is a member of Penn’s Student Veterans Association and presented at the Student Veterans of America National Conference 2020. Nathan plans to study law after graduation.

Hope is focusing in environmental chemistry and human health in the Master of Science in Applied Geosciences program. In addition to her capstone research on trace metals in artisanal charcoal in Uganda, Hope interned with the National Centers for Environmental Prediction. She has aspirations of a career as a research chemist, and is looking toward a PhD in the future.
