Course Description
This hybrid course will meet on the following schedule: Online: 2/8;  3/15 & 4/5. In-Person: 2/22 & 3/29.

The work, the workforce, and the workplace across the globe have experienced rapid changes in the last few decades. In addition, the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic has presented multilevel challenges for organizations, managers, and employees to navigate. All place organizational consulting and coaching at the forefront for many to consider leveraging and to make a difference. Sitting at the intersection of organizational behavior, cognitive psychology and many other disciplines, organizational consulting and coaching are complex and dynamic and there is a need to apply context appropriately and responsibly.

This course will offer a theoretical and practical comprehension of the tools and techniques used in the art and science of effective internal and external organizational consulting, individual, group and team coaching engagements. By contrasting the theory and practice of alternative models, we will build tools and techniques for effective consulting and coaching. The focus is on learning the “how” and “why” of consulting frameworks and understanding how to establish an effective helping relationship with client. We will also explore how to develop and apply critical thinking, problem posing and solving strategies to complex client problems.

Additionally, the symbiotic connection between consulting and coaching will be explored. What process tools are most useful to today’s leadership coach in a consultative and evolving environment? How do approaches to consulting and coaching differ? How are they similar? How can a confluence of consulting and coaching lead to more effective decision making and wide-scale organizational performance? What is the impact of the emerging technological tools, including AI, on consulting and coaching relationships? How can the internal and external consultant partner with the client and develop novel approaches that empower employees at all levels, and result in better business outcomes for the entire organization?
