The University of Pennsylvania announced the 2021 recipients of the Thouron Award, including Emily Davis, a Bachelor of Arts student in Penn's College of Liberal and Professional Studies.
Davis, from Gainesville, Florida, is a full-time student majoring in biology as well as a full-time professional ballet dancer in her sixth season with the Pennsylvania Ballet. She is a passionate advocate for integrating dance and health and is a trained instructor for the program Dance for Parkinson’s Disease. Davis plans to pursue a PhD exploring the biopsychosocial benefits of social dancing, with a goal of using research to legitimize the use of evidence-based dance interventions to improve health.
The Thouron Award, a graduate exchange program between the United Kingdom and the University of Pennsylvania, offers a life-changing opportunity for exceptional students. Its funding provides generous scholarships for post-graduate study abroad, and recipients join a stimulating community of international scholars and Thouron alumni.
