Penn’s College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS) is pleased to welcome Dr. Yvette Bordeaux as the new Director of Graduate Programs, where she will oversee the directors of LPS’ graduate and post-baccalaureate programs as they develop innovative program delivery and programmatic academic excellence. She will also serve as the faculty liaison to LPSGov, our graduate student government, and will work with departments and programs to develop new master’s and certificate programs.
Dr. Bordeaux received her BS in biology-geology from the University of Rochester and MS and PhD from Penn’s Department of Earth and Environmental Science (EES). At Penn, she previously served as Associate Director for Undergraduate Programs in Earth & Environmental Science before transitioning to the role of Director of Professional Masters Programs in Earth & Environmental Science in 2007, where she oversaw the Master of Environmental Studies (MES) and the Master of Science in Applied Geosciences (MSAG) programs. During that time, she helped transition the MSAG from a fully on-campus program to a fully online program and added non-degree certificate options in engineering geology and hydrogeology. She also negotiated ten dual degree agreements with other master’s programs and helped design the online Certificate in Climate Change for the Penn LPS Online program. As an instructor, she has taught courses for undergraduate and graduate students on campus, online, and fully in the field. She has won several teaching awards including the Penn Provost’s and LPS Distinguished Teaching awards and the UPCEA-Mid-Atlantic Alexander Charters Outstanding Continuing Educator Award.
Currently, Yvette is working with multiple LPS teams to develop two new master’s programs—one in criminology and one in economics. She stated, “The best part of my new position is the wide variety of programs and teams I get to work with every day. LPS has amazing and knowledgeable people on super-efficient teams. It is an honor to work with them all!”
