Syd Havely, PhD, has over 25 years of experience in corporate public relations and crisis management. His broad experience includes marketing, government affairs, media relations, legal, and environmental communications. Syd’s specific expertise is in resolving environmental contamination events, crafting litigation/PR strategies in mass tort cases, and formulating results-based community/political outreach strategies. He has acted as a spokesperson and prepared executives for high-consequence media interviews on national network news broadcasts and major publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and the Philadelphia Inquirer. Syd also lectures in Penn’s Occupation Medicine Practicum Residency Program on risk perception and decision-making processes in medical diagnoses.
Syd is the co-author of two books: Getting Traction—The Subaru Story and the Entrepreneurial Mindset with Harvey Lamm, co-founder of Subaru of America, and of Eight Dollars and a Dream—My American Journey with Raj Gupta, former Chairman and CEO of Rohm and Haas Company.
Syd received his PhD from Penn’s Graduate School of Education and a Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics. He also earned an MAT from Vanderbilt University, an MA from Wake Forest University, and an AB from Hamilton College.
