Course Description
This course introduces students to the use of qualitative and quantitative research methods in the social sciences and humanities as applicable for conducting research related to organizations. The aim of the course is to give you a general understanding of a variety of research methodologies and to combine this with theoretical discussion and practical experience. We will explore debates and discussions related to the nature of qualitative data and the value of particular approaches; the conditions under which specific methods of data collection and analysis are most appropriate; ethical questions in qualitative research; and research design and implementation. A significant portion of class time will be devoted to covering practical aspects of qualitative research, including: gathering data through interviews, focus groups, and observational research; strategies for recording, coding and analyzing qualitative data; and evaluating and presenting qualitative research.
