Course Description
This course is an introduction for students wishing to develop reading ability in a Slavic language* for academic research, professional work, or a personal pursuit of happiness. The possible languages students can choose from are Belarusian, BCMS (Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian) Czech, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Slovene, Ukrainian. The courses specific language focus will depend on what languages students choose (e.g., if the group only lists Polish and Slovak the course will focus on reading competency particularities in these two languages). By the end of the course students should be able to read in their desired Slavic language text aided by a dictionary. There will be no textbook for this course, all materials will be made available on the Canvas site. *There will be a Lithuanian option for students wanting to learn Lithuanian as well. The only major Slavic languages that will not be included are Bulgarian and Macedonian.
